I'm Melanie and I love creating.

My first creative passion was jewelry, which I started making from found objects back in elementary school. By middle school, I had discovered the wonders of my father's soldering iron and scrap metals. Thankfully, I've evolved. My favorite way to spend time at the jewelry bench is fabricating silver and gold pieces that include semi-precious stones. I also enjoy casting, lapidary work (polishing stones), and lampworking (making glass beads). I started making stamped silver jewelry in 2003.

My second passion is sewing. I studied fashion design in college and have spent much of my professional career in the retail merchandising industry. I love to sew! Most of my time at the sewing machine these days is spent piecing quilts, but I love to make clothing for myself and my daughter. I've recently become addicted to hand quilting the quilts I piece.

Lately, I've gone back to my design roots, working in home textile design. After spending six years in merchandising (home textiles) for a major nationwide retailer, I'm designing bedding and home textiles for a wonderful company based in Georgia. You can find my designs in the bedding departments of regional department stores, usually under their private label. When I find the time, I love to design my own fabrics and have them printed at Spoonflower, a digital textile printer. Fabric design combines many of my passions: textiles, design, and art.

I live in Texas with my husband and daughter. I graduated from Texas Christian University where I earned a degree in fashion design with a minor in art. When I'm not doing all the fun stuff above, I can be found knitting, working on a crochet project, baking and cooking, reading, blogging, running, gardening, or watching the birds.
